Spring Trends 2017: Platform Sneakers

Platform sneakers aren’t a shoe I’d normally find myself drooling over, but here I am…drooling! Funny because in my most recent Instagram posts (here and here), I discussed buying into trends and NEVER saying never. If you’re on a budget, are the trends worth buying into? Will you find yourself stuck with the old when the new stuff rolls around in a few months?

In this case, we saw a little glimpse of the platform trend throughout last year; but I really think it’s going to blow up in the coming months with the warmer weather rolling around. They don’t seem like they’re going to fade out any time soon. Plus, what’s not to love about them?

They give you a little extra height, go great with jeans, shorts, dresses, skirts, and you can’t NOT love all the cute styles they’re available in! Just take a look at the studded (#2) and faux fur pom pom and suede platform kicks (#4). Personally, I’m a big fan of Vans, so naturally I had to throw a pair in there. I actually feel like they’re going to be my next purchase ;).

Then there are the solid neutral picks. Numbers 1, 5, and 6 are the perfect neutrals. Number one is by Puma and most people would recognize this shoe from Rihanna’s collection with them. They come in a cool patent leather and I’m not used to seeing people wear tan sneakers so that’s cool!

Last but not least, 5 and 6. Number 5 is by Sam Edelman and they’re a cute velvet shoe. That’s two trends in one! Don’t worry, velvet is still a thing. The last pair are by Superga and these have a really nice platform. They’re simple and if you search for platform sneakers, Superga platforms are the first to pop up. Again, simple and wearable with anything!

My mom did tell me that maybe I should pass on the platforms because of my history of clumsy moments. Do I want to hit the edge of the curb with these babies and end up with scraped knees and a missing tooth?

I think I’ll take that chance LOL.

As always, I aim to keep items under $100 and luckily I’ve found all of these within that $100 range! One thing I will say is if you’re looking to buy trendy items, it’s best to not drop too much money on them unless you KNOW that you’re going to wear them for years to come.

What are you all thinking about the platform sneakers? Are they in or not? Let me know what you think in the comments!
